Options: Instructions

Instructions are shown to the user before starting the research. They are displayed in the form of a separate window before the start of the research. Within this separate window, the user needs to click on the Start button to start the research. You should use them if your research model is of a more complex nature, and the user should be explained in detail in a standardized way what needs to be done during the research. The application creates default Instructions, which you can replace with your own instructions loaded from the selected file. The instructions are useful because, for example, the meaning of the ESC key (ESCAPE = stop research) should be explained to the user, as well as the fact that the first stimulus will not start to be displayed until the user has pressed any key on the keyboard (not ESC). Of course, you can write the instructions in your own language.

Display the Instructions before starting the research

If you do not want to use the Instructions before starting the research, deselect the corresponding checkbox. Otherwise, you can choose your own instructions by clicking the Open button or use the default instructions generated by the application. Supported file types for instructions are: Text Files (txt), Rich Text Format (rtf), and Web Pages (Local storage html). Rich Text Format is only partially supported (not all settings inside the file are loaded correctly). If the application successfully loads the Instructions from the external file, they should be displayed in a multi-line text box below the Open button.

Type the text that will appear at the BEGIN of the task

In the corresponding text box, you can enter the text that will be displayed to the user before the first stimulus from the Stimulus List is displayed. The application will not start displaying the first stimulus until the user presses any keyboard key (not ESC). The meaning of the ESC key should definitely be explained to the user. You can enter a maximum of 256 characters. The rest is ignored.

Type the text that will appear at the END of the task

In the corresponding text box, you can enter the text that will be displayed to the user at the end of the research, i.e. after displaying the last stimulus from the List of Stimuli. Here, the meaning of the ESC key must be explained to the user. If the user presses the ESC key after this message is displayed, this may result in the loss of stored research results. In principle, you should always let the screen (Full-Screen Exclusive Mode) close by itself. If you do not enter anything, only the ID=N message will be displayed. You can enter a maximum of 256 characters. The rest is ignored.

If you do not want to save the changed settings within the Option Window, you must explicitly click on the Cancel button when closing this window. Closing this window with "x" (Close) or Save and Close , automatically saves all (changed) values.
